How To Move On Short Notice

Moving is a stressful experience. That’s why it’s recommended to plan your move a month before the actual date so that you don’t get overwhelmed. Moving requires organizing a lot of things. If you have a week or less to move, you’re likely to be stressed out. Worse even, you may be anxious and get psyched out.

Though a moving company like Arrow Moving will help you reach your destination safely, you need to have some tips for moving on short notice. This article highlights some of them.

1.Organize Yourself

If you have to move on short notice, many things can easily stress you. Packing the whole house may seem overwhelming. To avoid being stressed out, you should be organized. Fortunately, you don’t require rocket science to organize yourself. You can use two valuable tools. A timeline and a to-do list.

Start by listing down everything you must do before the move. This may include packing the house, booking movers, setting up child care, organizing important documents, and getting address forms changed.

Once you have your list, work within a timeline. Remember, when moving on short notice, you have limited time to get everything done. Don’t also forget that you can’t do everything at once. To simplify things, it’s best to prioritize tasks into a realistic schedule to allow you to focus on one thing at a time.

2.Declutter

Decluttering is a vital component of moving. You don’t want to carry everything, including those you don’t need, to your new apartment because they’ll waste your time and cost you more money. So to save time, you should have less to pack.

Eliminate everything that doesn’t serve you any purpose, like old DVD players, clothes you haven’t worn for long, and old class notes. Separate these items into three piles, depending on whether they can be recycled, donated, or tossed. If possible, donate as much as you can. Calling a friend to pick up the items you want to donate and recycle can help you save more time.

3.Buy The Right Supplies

Because you may not have time for frequent trips back and forth to the store to pick packing materials and boxes, you must get whatever you need on the first go. A packing calculator can help you know the exact number of containers you’ll require for your items. Buying these boxes and a couple of wardrobe boxes will help you save time when packing your clothes because you’ll not have to pull them off their hangers.

It may be tempting to use free boxes the free boxes you get from your grocery. However, it’s advisable to invest in proper moving boxes because these may fall apart or fail to fit into the track since they come in various sizes and shapes. Don’t forget to buy essentials like packing paper, packing tape, and furniture protectors if you plan to move yourself.

The Bottom Line

Moving within a week or less can be challenging. The good news is that it isn’t impossible. If you’re conscious about time and have the suitable materials and plan, you’ll find it more manageable.
