Choosing a cutting board

Cutting boards are made in different materials; you can get it in plastic, glass, wood, or even bamboo. Not all these boards are made the same way, and that’s why you need to choose the one that fits you. To get the best cutting board, the first thing you do is choose the right material. In fact, others would prefer two different cutting boards for cutting different foods.

Again, the type of grain, maintenance required, and the size will also determine the choice you make. With that in mind, you can make the right choice of your board.

Choose the right material.

You may be tempted to choose glass for your kitchen because it looks appealing. However, you need to think twice. These seem to dull the knife, and therefore you’d instead use it as a serving platter or even cheese tray. Other materials like marble, composite, and ceramic could damage your knife and should be avoided as well.

Not all plastic is suitable. One of the great options for cutting boards is plastic. They’re affordable, safe for the knife and easy to clean. Slick and smooth plastic should be avoided-these may cause the knife to slip. The best choice of plastic boards would be polypropylene and polyethene.

Choose wood. The best and most reliable choice of cutting boards is the wooden type. These are popular with both chefs and the amateurs and are very appealing and durable. Most importantly, they are great for the knives. You can get a wood cutting board in many types; teak, maple and oak. Teak is a perfect choice because it absorbs little liquid, so it’s not easy for the board to wear out.

Use different boards for different foods.

Keeping a single cutting board in your kitchen can be tricky. Sometimes you want to chop onion and at the same time fruits. That’s why chefs go for at least two so that you don’t mix foods. You can choose one plastic and one wood. For meat and fish, the oils can seep into the wood and therefore you’ll need plastic cutting boards for such. Better still, you can have a thin plastic placed on top of the board for ease of use.

For produce, select wood or bamboo

For fruits and vegetables, wood and bamboo make a perfect meat carving board. These types will extend the life of your knife and are built to last. The wood and bamboo cutting board will also work correctly with cooked meats.

Keep off from cutting board with feet.

For the best cutting board, get one that you can use on both sides. Shun boards that have feet on one side. If something happens on the cutting side, then you may have to throw away the board. But with two functional sides, you can turn and continue using the other. That helps you avoid any inconvenience.

A kitchen without a cutting board could mean you’ve to struggle to do the chopping chores. The cutting board makes it easy for you and avoids hurting yourself. However, choosing cutting boards is not as easy as you may think. Thus you’ve to choose the right online cutting boards’ vendor who offers quality at an affordable fee.
